Details taken from 2005 survey. Alligin of
Oare is a Wakering 33 masthead sloop with an auxiliary Vetus M3-1 0 22 hp
diesel engine. An attractive Part 1 British registered wooden vessel
designed by Alan Hill and built by Sutton and Smith of Gt Wakering of Essex
in 1970. L.o.A 32'6", beam 9'9", draft 4'0". She is fitted with a fully
battened main sail with the roller reefing headsail replaced in 2000,
included is a blue and white spinnaker with snuffer. All sails
professionally cleaned 2008. Fitted main sail stacker packer, and spray hood
and cockpit tent.
The Wakering is a roomy wooden vessel with a
curved raked bow, short counter and transom stern, twin bilge keels and a
round bilge. She sails well and has for many years been based in and around
the Medway and north Kent area.
She has six berth accommodation in two
cabins and sleeps four comfortably. A double in the bow, a double in the
saloon cabin on the port side, and single berths in the starboard saloon and
starboard quarter. A separate sea toilet compartment with folding wash basin
and running water is located port side between the bow and saloon cabins.
Last surveyed in April 2005 and described then as well mairttained with
replacement engine, shaft, twin bladed propeller and new sails, she has
continued to be maintained in good condition with the hull painted Britannia
blue.
The hull is constructed of stripped 1" sq
hollowed and round edge glued and fastened mahogany planking. The external
hull down from the cove line has been sheathed I believe approxiwately 10
years ago with a thin layer of West System glass roving and epoxy resin on
the approval of the designer and West Systems, to improve the ease of
general maintenance and watertight integrity.
Topsides decks and interior are teak.
Exterior brightwork has been refurbished with Deks Olje 1 and 2. Cabin
topsides painted with anti slip paint. Alloy framed windows fitted with
toughened glass.
Manual anchor winch on foredeck, with CQR
anchor and chain over bow roller. Separate kedge anchor and chain in cockpit
locker. Adjustable spinnaker pole. Winches fitted to mast and boom with two
main winches and two spinnaker winches in cockpit. All winch handles
provided. Opening fore hatch.
The twin bladed 15" propeller is protected
within a skeg with attached tiller operated rudder.
Interior wood varnished and in good
condition with saloon and bow locker space to port starboard and below
seats. 30 gallon polythene fresh water tank fitted below seats starboard
side. Pressurised hot and cold water supply from a 4 gallon engine fed
calorifier with immersion heater when on shore power, providing hot and cold
water to the galley and toilet compartment. Fitted interior cabin smoke
alarm, fire extinguishers, fire blanket and engine extinguisher.
The galley is fitted with a sink, hot and
cold water, and a Taylors 030 pressuriseq paraffin cooker, (pressure tank
fitted below seats on port side).
Nav table is to starboard aft with fitted
lights, a Simrad RT1400 VHF radio, Garmin 120 XL GPS, Clipper navtex, and an
Autohelm 100 electronic chart/nav plotter,
Saloon fitted with Taylors paraffin cabin
heater. Saloon table drops to form the double berth on the port side. Fitted
stereo radio CD player and speakers, electric cabin lights and two brass
paraffin lamps. Wet locker to starboard opposite heads.
Shore power fitted with RCD isolator and l3amp
sockets in saloon and galley. Twin 85 amp hr batteries in vented boxes located
under quarter berth charged from engine by upgraded Stirling charger unit.
Master battery selection, fused switch panel all lighting and nav lights. Two
whale bilge pumps, one in saloon one in cockpit. Auto Helm tiller pilot.
Traditional hand bearing Sestral compass and Moore deck compass. 25 gallon
diesel tank fitted below cockpit.
